Movement Assessment & Posture Analysis

Identify movement limitations and postural dysfunction with FMS screening in Marylebone, London

Poor posture and movement dysfunction don't just cause pain—they limit performance, increase injury risk, and reduce quality of life. Most people don't realise they have postural imbalances or movement restrictions until they're already injured.

I use the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and posture analysis to identify exactly where your body is compensating, where you lack mobility or stability, and what's holding you back. This isn't guesswork. It's a systematic assessment that gives you a clear picture of how your body moves and what needs to change.

What Is Movement Assessment & Posture Analysis?

The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a standardised assessment used by elite coaches, physiotherapists, and sports teams worldwide. It evaluates seven fundamental movement patterns that form the foundation of all human movement—squatting, stepping, lunging, reaching, and rotating.

Posture analysis examines your body alignment in static and dynamic positions. I look at how you stand, how you move, and where your body compensates for weakness, tightness, or previous injury.

Together, these assessments reveal:

  • Movement limitations and asymmetries

  • Postural dysfunction and alignment issues

  • Mobility restrictions and stability deficits

  • Injury risk factors

  • Compensation patterns that cause pain or reduce performance

This is the starting point for every client I work with. You can't train effectively if you don't know where your body is starting from.

The Seven Movement Patterns I Assess

Each movement is scored on a 0–3 scale. A score of 2 or below indicates a limitation that needs to be addressed before progressing to more demanding training.

Posture Analysis: What I Look For

Posture isn't just about standing up straight. It's about how your body distributes load, maintains alignment, and compensates for weakness or tightness.

I assess:

  • Head and neck position: Forward head posture, cervical alignment

  • Shoulder alignment: Rounded shoulders, scapular winging, elevation

  • Thoracic spine: Excessive kyphosis (rounding), extension limitations

  • Lumbar spine: Excessive lordosis (arching), flat back posture

  • Pelvis: Anterior or posterior tilt, rotation, lateral shift

  • Hip, knee, and ankle alignment: Valgus/varus collapse, foot pronation

Poor posture creates compensations. Compensations create imbalances. Imbalances lead to pain and injury. Correcting posture is one of the fastest ways to reduce chronic pain and improve movement quality.

Who Benefits From Movement Assessment & Posture Analysis?

This assessment is for you if:

  • You have chronic pain (lower back, knee, hip, shoulder) with no clear cause

  • You've been injured before and want to prevent it happening again

  • You sit for long periods and notice stiffness, tightness, or poor posture

  • You train regularly but feel limited by mobility or stability issues

  • You're starting a new training program and want to build a solid foundation

  • You're an athlete looking to identify weaknesses before they become injuries

60% of my clients come to me for injury rehabilitation. Most of them have movement dysfunctions and postural imbalances that contributed to their injury in the first place. Fixing these issues is the key to long-term recovery and performance.
